I have recently published a book, titled “The political economy of Hollywood: Capitalist power and cultural production”. It is the most comprehensive publication of my political economic research on the Hollywood film business. The book contains new and updated empirical research on the Hollywood film business, both domestically and internationally. Notably, I retrieved a large set of IMDb data for films theatrically released between 1983 and 2019. This data enabled me to produce additional quantitative analysis of casting, genre and runtime trends in Hollywood filmmaking, particularly when major distributors made blockbuster cinema their main cinematic/financial strategy.
The book is available in softcover, hardcover and epub. To see if the book is for you, below is a preview of published book, which includes the table of contents, the entire introduction and book’s bibliography. (Keep scrolling for pre-print copy.)
I am sharing the pre-print copy, which can be done within the terms of my copyright agreement with Routledge. If the price of the book is prohibitive for you, feel free to use the pre-print for reading. Please refer to the published copy for citations and use in bibliographies.
